Best Practices
- Always record the serial number for hardware assets — this is essential for insurance claims and IT support
- Update asset status to Inactive when an employee is offboarded rather than deleting the record
- Use the Notes field to record repair history, incidents, or configuration details
- Run the Assets report quarterly to identify expired warranties and aging equipment
- Assign all assets before employee onboarding is complete
Common Questions
Yes – leave the Assigned To field blank. The asset will still appear in inventory.
Assets remain in the system and should be manually reassigned or marked Inactive during the offboarding process.
Document attachment for assets is on the product roadmap. Currently, use the Notes field to reference document locations.
